Dates to Remember
May Day

Im sure youll agree with me that the third grade really rocked the gym with their
hula and chanting. I got chicken skin watching them! The students were so proud of
themselves and so eager to finally use their ipu and other instruments. It's too bad we
couldn't do the whole thing again since it seemed to have gone very quickly! Mahalo for
all the beautiful lei I received! I felt so special! What a variety of flowers! It was really
quite a day!
Here we are, entering the final stretch of the school year! Its hard to believe the
year is almost over! I look forward to this last month as a time to really enjoy working
with the children. They have come so far this year! We are at that point where we are
really working like a cohesive group--a real family. This is my favorite time of year.
When the end does arrive, I usually dont want anyone to go on to fourth grade! I know
the time will really fly by.
Field Trips
We will be going on two field trips next week. Wednesday is the Bishop Museum.
We will be back before lunch so home lunch is not necessary. Class tee shirt and shoes
are, however. The next day, Thursday, is a short is a fast trip to sing for the kupuna at
The Lunalilo Home in Hawaii Kai. We will spend about an hour there. This is part of
our community service. Class tee shirt is needed for this trip, too. So, since we have two
trips back to back that need our class tee shirts I told the class to BRING in their blue
class tee shirt on Tuesday and we can change into it on Wednesday and Thursday. That
way you dont have to worry about washing it Wednesday night. Mahalo!
In The Class
We spent a lot of our time in April working on our projects. We finished plant
posters that are absolutely beautiful, read a lot of Hawaiian legends, are writing an ipu
book, and finished our book club books. You will see a lot of the work they ve done
when you come to the Aloha Tea. We will finish up the year in Hawaiian Studies we by
reading the biography of Kamehameha the Great and learn more about life in the
ahupuaa. We will also make kapa in the next two weeks. In Math we are rolling right
along, finishing geometry and fractions soon and then starting decimals. We finished
the last unit in Wordly Wise and will continue with some spelling. So much to do, so little
time!
For your information, the students' final progress reports will be mailed home to
you at the end of the year. The students will carry home their portfolios the last week of
school.
That's all for now. Yikes! I can't believe the year is almost over! This has really
been an incredible year and Ive really grown to love these children. I am going to miss
them--each one of them individually and as a class as a whole. They are such an
unique bunch. They are hard workers but know how to have fun, too! I love, love, love
them! They make me laugh daily!
Mahalo again for everything you do for Na Honu!
