COMM22 Grand Opening Held Today

Vital long-delayed project over 10 years in the making

San Diego, CA- Today, City Councilmember David Alvarez and community members
celebrated the grand opening for COMM22, an innovative mixed-use, transit-oriented
affordable housing project located in Logan Heights.
The COMM22 Project was a collaborative effort including BRIDGE Housing Corporation,
MAAC Project, San Diego Unified School District, the City of San Diego, San Diego
Housing Commission, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and several
other valuable public and private partners.
This development includes 130 units of affordable family housing and 70 units of
affordable housing for seniors. In addition to the 200 affordable apartment homes,
COMM22 will include day care facilities, community-serving commercial and retail
space, office space, market rate lofts and for-sale townhomes. The master-planned
development also features enhanced plaza areas for public gatherings, public art, strong
pedestrian connectivity throughout the site and convenient access to public
transportation.
This project is not just about building units this project is about building community,
stated Councilmember Alvarez. The site was the very definition of blight and has sat in
the middle of this community untouched for years. Over ten years ago, I attended
community meetings about this project and over that time, it had been delayed time
and again. I am very pleased that right after I took office, I was able to bring a coalition
together to make this project a reality and would like to thank everyone involved.

chair of the Committee on the Environment.
