Engineering Drawing

Lab Assignment: 1
Total Marks: 20

(Improper margin and title box will cause 10% marks deduction)

1. A rectangular plot of 25 square kilometres area is represented on a certain map by a

similar rectangular area of 4 square centimetres. Find out the value of representative
factor (R.F) of the drawing scale. Construct a diagonal scale that can measure
kilometres up to first decimal place, and capable of measuring a maximum distance of
30 kilometres. On this scale show a distance of 15.6 kilometres.

2. A train running at a constant speed of 50 kilometres per hour. Construct a

comparative scale of kilometre and minute for which a maximum distance of 60
kilometres can be measured; and 4 kilometres distance is represented by 1 centimetre
of the scale length. Also, on the scale show the distance travelled by the train in 35
minutes.

3. Consider certain microscopic devise having maximum dimension of 500 microns. To

describe the device on a design chart, 100 microns is represented by 3 centimetres.
Find out the representative factor and construct a backward Vernier scale to measure
up to 1 micron. Show a length of 256 micron on this scale.

4. By using scale of chords method construct 35, 80 and 150 degree angles.

5. Construct an ellipse based on the following information: (i) distance between directrix
and focus = 60 mm, (ii) eccentricity = 3/5.
