LISTENING #1

TITLE:Sing, Sing, Sing

PERFORMER:Benny Goodman and His Orchestra
BIBLIOGRAPHY: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzxrBdryBzU
TONE LIKES AND DISLIKES: I like how they have great tone, and they are all on
beat. They could have more diversity when it comes to dynamics, but other than
that the tone is amazing.
EXPRESSION: They have good accents and articulation though the whole piece.
TECHNIQUE:The whole band has great technique and great solos.

LISTENING #2
TITLE:Chopin Ballade no.1 in G-Major, op.32
PERFORMER:Lang Lang
BIBLIOGRAPHY:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oju-e6sPvDw
TONE LIKES AND DISLIKES:His tone is great, and the piano he plays on is of top
quality. I kind of dislike the very static sound of the piece when he plays it though.
EXPRESSION:His expression is great, but I have heard this piece played with more
emotion, and dynamics.
TECHNIQUE: Lang Lang is well known for his technique. He plays the piece exactly
as written, which is a really big task.

LISTENING #3

TITLE:Chopin Etude Op.25 No.5 in E-Minor

PERFORMER:Vladimir Horowitz
BIBLIOGRAPHY:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wWmYbMkOjo
TONE LIKES AND DISLIKES: Since this is an old recording, judging the tone is
difficult, but Horowitzs tone is great, and is played with much emotion.
EXPRESSION:Horowitzs expression is great as always, and he plays the piece with
a lot of emotional strength. He almost plays the piece warped with emotion.
TECHNIQUE:Horowitzs technique is superb, but even though he has excellent
technique he still plays songs that use more emotion than technique. His playing is
incredible even if he doesnt show his best technique.
