This proposal outlines a project for a Samford Gives Back group to help unpack, organize, label, sort, and shelve 5,000 new books being received by Trace Crossings Elementary School. The books will be used by all students from kindergarten to 4th grade and will be arranged alphabetically from A to Z on bookshelves in the library. Volunteers will need to confirm the project date with Mrs. Stone, advertise the opportunity to education students, and help on the designated project date of April 18th to create a new book room that will support the school's guided reading program.

Samford Gives Back Needs and Opportunities We decided to form a Samford Gives Back group for education students. We contacted Mrs. Stone to see if there was anything we could help out with at the school. She told us she had the perfect project for us to do. Trace will be receiving 5,000 new books and Mrs. Stubblefield needs help unpacking the books, organizing, labeling, sorting, and shelving the books. A group of Samford students would be perfect for helping with this project. Audience / Clients / Users The books will be used by all students at Trace. Teachers will be able to check out the books and use them in their classrooms. The books become increasingly difficult as they move from level A to level Z, so students in kindergarten fourth graders will be able to find a books that interest them. Timeline Confirm date/project with Mrs. Stone: March Advertise group to education students: week of April 6 Group Registration deadline: April 10 Group Leader Training: April 14 Samford Gives Back: April 18 Product The finished product is a brand new book room in the Trace Crossings library. We organized all the books from A to Z. Books were placed in bins and arranged alphabetically on the bookshelves. Reality Check The books, bins, and bookshelves will be provided by Trace. We will just need volunteers to come and help unpack, sort, organized, label, and shelve the books. Conclusion This project will help Mrs. Stubblefield implement a new guided reading program at Trace. The students and teachers will have access to over 5,000 new books. Students will be able to fine books that interest them, and teacher will have access to resources and books to use for differentiation and small groups.
