Unit 1. Interactive Maps and Galleries

Criterion A. Inquiring and Analysing

Part 1. Examples of Interactive Maps
A. Online examples:
Look for 3 online examples of interactive maps used in schools, communities and establishments.
Here are some examples:
http://samples.mapsalive.com/20019/page1.htm
http://www.sevenoaksschool.org/campus-map
http://samples.mapsalive.com/mall1/

Construct a table to compare the strong and weak points of the 3 online examples of interactive maps you have chosen.

Strong Points

The strong point about this

web page is that there a
place for every single
number in the map and that
there is over 30 places.

The strong point about this

web page is that it has very
detailed map and it
highlights the part your
mouse goes.

The strong point about this

web page is that it has a lot
of places and show a
picture of almost of every
part. It is real life pictures.

.Weak Points

The week point about this

web page is that the
controls to move around do
not work and it is
sometimes hard to see
exactly what is positioned at
a spot

The weak point about this

web page is that it just has
2 words or 1 to tell what the
shaded part that your
mouse is on. It should have
a small description.

The weak point about this

web page is that the map it
self is just shapes with
color. It should have maybe
a little more color and a little
bit more of detail.

B. Past student projects:

In our class folder in Group Documents (Design 8A 2014-2015), compare 3 examples of past student projects on
interactive AISM campus maps and virtual galleries.
Construct a table to compare the strong and weak points of the 3 examples you have chosen.

powerpoint is that it sho3ws
all the parts of the school

see so it is hard to picture

those parts of the school if
you have never been there.

Part II. Problem and Need

A. Problem / Need:
The old AISM website contains an old AISM secondary school campus floorplan which can be
downloaded in .pdf file. Check the campus floorplan here: http://goo.gl/rnHk8l
The librarian also wants to have an interactive tour for the library.
Explain and justify the need for any 1 of the following: (in 1 paragraph, discuss at least 5 reasons)
changing the old campus floorplan into an interactive map
creating a virtual library tour
creating a virtual gallery of campus life or activities (sports, arts, theater, student life, environment,
technology, etc.)
The school has to change the school plans because in the library there is not just 2 floors but 3, They also have to make
more detailed and as well because there is going to be probably on of the biggest changes in the history of this school.
There going to be more than half the school size of new parts of this school. It is going to be 2 times bigger than its side
now. And they have to make a 3rd floor plan tom the school.
B. Design Challenge:
Your final project is to design and create any one of the following:
a. Interactive AISM campus map
b. Interactive AISM secondary school library map
c. Virtual gallery of AISM secondary school library
d. Virtual gallery of AISM campus activities (sports, arts, theater, environment, technology, etc.)
Choose 1 option from above. In 1 paragraph, describe what you would like to do for your final project.
