Suicide affects many, but having a small and meaningful connection with somebody, in even
the smallest way can help prevent the next step in the situation
Statistics
After cancer and heart disease, suicide is said to be accountable for more life lost than any
other cause of death.
In 2012, 40,600 cases have been reported, making suicide the 10th leading cause of death in
America.
Using the year 2012, is it said that someone in the country dies every 12.9 minutes.
From 1986 to 2000, suicide rates dropped from 12.5 to 10.4 suicide deaths per 100,000
people.
After 2000, it started to increase again and at 2012, it stood at 12.5 per 100,000 people.
In 2012, the highest suicide rate (19.88) was from people between the ages 45-59, the second
highest rate (17) was people over the age of 75 years old.
