Evil Twin Review

by: Abe Faust

March 5th - 7th, students from

Everett Community College
(EvCC) performed an original
play, the Evil Twin; a dark and
demented comedy which tackles the question, Who are we,
truly? This is a play that follows
the story of twin brothers and a
corporation that may have created a monster.
Written by EvCCs very own
Theatre instructor, Beth Peterson,
Evil Twin is a unique performance. Directed by Brett Rickaby, a friend of Peterson, is a professional actor best known for his
character, Vince, in True Blood
as well as other roles A Million
Ways to Die in the West, and
The Crazies (2010).
The plays best feature was how
it nailed the movement of actors
on stage. Each gesture and action seemed larger than life with
how it was used to create the
feelings of confusion and despair
mixed with a bit of cat and mouse
between the actors. The writing
was relatively easy to understand
and the play itself was centered
mostly around its wonderfully

The Rememberence
of a Victim
By: Ana Moddejonge

October 24th, 2014 was a sad

day that struck a quietness in the
city of Marysville, and on the
Tulalip Reservation. According
to Heraldnet.com, six students
were shot, including the shooter
himself. Five of six of the Freshman students were eventually
pronounced dead. One of the students has a remembrance site for
family, friends, and the community at Legion Memorial Park in
Everett. According to another article on Heraldnet.com by Andrea
Brown, Gia Sorianos grandmother bought a bench to place in Legion Memorial Park to honor and
remember Gia. There is an angel
set in the concrete base of the
bench, along with a plaque on the

bench that says God Incredible

Angel. The bench is covered in
purple ribbons and purple flowers, along with purple wings, as to
the fact that Gia Sorianos favorite color was purple. A birthday
gathering was hosted at the remembrance site in Gias honor on
March 31st, purple balloons were
released into the sky for Gia. A
scholarship has been put in place
at Everett High School in honor
of Gia Soriano and Zoe Gallasso,
for one high school senior who
has suffered some sort of trauma
and plans to pursue their school
career. This was created by the
Soriano Parents and Michelle
Gallasso, who are all Everett High
school alumni.

elaborate plot.
However, Evil Twin ends up falling short in its inability to decide
whether its a black comedy or
a psychological thriller. As one
actor of the play, Josh Olson, said
himself, Beth Peterson originally
wrote the play to be far more
comedic. In Olsons opinion, after
Rickaby got his hands on it and
chose to cut out the plays more
humorous nature in favor of it
being far more serious, the play
was far better. Even after seeing
it for myself, the play didnt quite
nail the balance between comedy
and drama. It also doesnt explore
many of the more interesting
themes it lightly touches on.
After writing a critique for her
theatre class, she personally
thanked me and plans to go back
to do rewrites on Evil Twin. If
she ever plans on producing it
again, Evil Twin is a production
highly recommend to fans of
psychological thrillers and horror
in the vein of Jekyll and Hyde
that dont shy away from coarse
language and violent content.

Spring Break!
By Christian Parker
With spring break just passing by,
students have been doing various things. There were a range of
activities people did, from going
on vacation, working, or just hanging out with friends. Students went
to visit family in other parts of
the state or even outside of Washington! I personally went to my
vacation house in Danville, Washington. Danville is a small town
just south of the Canadian border.
While I was there I was either
helping out by gardening or laying back and playing video games
with my older sister and her fiance.
Other students went to places such
as theme parks and national monuments, like Silverwood and Yel-

Jesse Pettite and Trey Bourasaw
went to Seaside, Oregon to hit
the beach. Cowabunga, dude

out the janitors at our school for
one day and went to Bellingham,
Washington to browse a variety
of places. Spring break was a nice
time to get away from the stresses
of daily life and school. Students
and their friends alike had fun and
got time away from the regular
class assignments we are all used
to stressing about. Hope you guys
all had a great spring break!

Blitz Theatre

By: Mackenzie Sisk

For this years spring play Arts

& Techs drama club merged
with the drama and tech theater
class to put on the second Blitz
Theater Show. Last year was the
first year that Arts & Tech did
the Blitz Theater Show. The
show consists of four or more one
act plays that the students work
together on. There are five plays
this year instead of four; they are
The Phony Physician(drama
club), The Mystery Of The Silver
Backed Hairbrush, The Laziest
Man In The World, Monkeys
Paw, and Candid Shots. Mr. AlRashid is the advisor for the sets
of the plays and Mr. Malstead is
the advisor for the actors of the
plays. Four students were asked
many questions about Blitz. Erika Hammontree from drama class
was asked What do you think
about Blitz? she answered Its
very interesting. David Pugh
from tech theater class was asked
Is it harder to work on five plays
instead of one? he answered
No, I enjoy it. Nathan Welch
from stage crew was asked How

I Waddle Alone.

many sets are there for the whole
show? he answered There are
four sets. Jesse Rutgers from
drama club was asked Is it hard
memorizing lines? he answered
When I first started acting it was
but the more experience I gain
the easier it gets. Tech theater
class, drama class, stage crew and
drama club is working hard to
make the Blitz Theater Show the
best it can be.

Quils Students of the week

By: Kevin Knutsen
At Quil Ceda Elementary many
students work hard to succeed. Each Friday, students are
called out, to be recognized for
their hard work. Students with
such academic progress will be
awarded with G.R.O.W. leaf
awards. The acronym grow
stands for; G: Grow your mind,
R: Respect yourself and others,
O: Own Yourself, W: Welcome
others. G.R.O.W. leaf awards are
trophies that show the students
progress, as in; meeting their
goals, participating in events, or
demonstrating good leadership.
Students get this award by fol-

lowing Guidelines for Success.

When a student is presented with
this reward, a certificate is sent
home with them to prove their
excellence and a leaf with their
name on it is attached to a growing tree. As the year progresses
the tree will grow. These students
work every week to earn these
rewards. At the end of each week
on fridays, these students are
called out to stand up and be noticed for being a great outstanding role model. Congratulations
to the role models of Quil-Ceda.

Names of all the students who earned the grow achievement.

Heritage
A.I.R Film Class
By: Jesse Petite

Every Friday the Heritage school

at the Marysville secondary campus has a special day called Artists in Residence Day. On these
fridays students get to attend
specialized classes such as a Film
and editing class. After sitting in
on the film class and observing
the class I was able to see how
the students were learning to
put together a movie. They were
learning things about lighting,
filming, and editing clips which is
a skill that can be useful outside
of school projects and could be a
career path. The students interviewed other students and teachers about Heritage high school
while filming the interviews and
putting them together to form 5-6
minute long film. Rick Valentine
and Brian Berry teach and guide
the students during the A.I.R. day

Nature is beauty
By: Sierrra Boston

Beauty is more than comprehensible,

Each day walked, gives life a new
meaning.
The ground, keeping gravity
stable.
The plants, allowing life to become real.
The water, reflecting beauty
itself.
The trees, making every breath
have worth.
The animals, providing nutrients.
The sky, showing colors and
emotion.
The air, feeling the senses for the
Earth.
The sun, warming the planet
peacefully.
The earth, nurturing nature discreetly.
