Recommendations for One Book, One Campus

In response to your request for book recommendations for the One Book, One Campus initiative,
my recommendations include This is Our Story by Wendi Adelson; The Stop: How the Fight for
Good Food Transformed a Community and Inspired a Movement by Nick Saul and Andrea
Curtis; and Clash of Civilizations Over an Elevator in Piazza Vittorio by Amara Lakhous.
Relevance. While conducting my research, I looked for books that would relate to some of
FGCUs guiding principles such as the creation of a civil and sustainable society, community
service, and diversity. The books I have recommended in the table below are prior One Book,
One Campus reading selections of Florida State University, the University of Richmond, and
Cornell University.

Significance. Each of the books listed above touch on one of FGCUs guiding principles. This
is Our Story should encourage the civil and sustainable society ideal by promoting the
development of the responsible self who is grounded in honesty, courage, and compassion
The Stop is about community service and involvement. And Clash of Civilizations relates
directly to diversity. The compelling stories will appeal to the incoming freshman students and
provide a story to which they can empathize with the characters.
Please consider my recommendations when making your selection for the 2016 One Book, One
Campus initiative.
