Influences of the French

Revolution
The French Revolution not only served to promote ideas of

These ideas were highlighted in the sectors of the French
colony of Saint Domingue

their privileges. When they saw the weakening of the
monarchy, supporters of the autonomy of the colony declared
and sought to retain government.

Los Pequeos BLancos

The small white men aspired to improve their political

position, relying on the principles of equality of the
Revolution.

Los Mulatos y los Negros

Many free blacks and mulattoes had the same economic

position as many whites, but did not have the same rights
and privileges. Mulattoes and blacks wanted equality, as
established by the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of
Cuidadano. However, whites and freed men were not
interested in making sure of these rights being met for slaves.
