Dear Parents or Guardians,

On Tuesday Febuary 3rd, the students went to KoOlina to visit Lanikuhonua.
This is Hawaiis uniqueness lies in its native culture (Kanaka maoli), and the
diverse ethnic cultures that have embraced the Hawaiian value of aloha. In
Kapolei, Kanaka maoli is practiced and honored at Lanikuhonua.
Lanikuhonua is the gorgeous beachfront property at Ko Olina, which the
James Campbell Company dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the
Hawaiian culture through the Lanikuhonua Cultural Institute. For over a
decade, the Institute has sponsored Hawaiian studies classes for area
elementary school students.
We are also starting our money unit this week! We are asking our
students to bring coins to the classroom. (No more than $2.00 at a time
please.) This will give the students hands on learning experience when
dealing with coins. The class will be doing this until Feb. 17 th . The money
will go to purchasing books and will be donated to classrooms in Kanoelani.
Also, thank you for helping your students with filling out the Needs and
Wants worksheet throughout the week. This was my first homework
assignment assigned for the class.
Sincerely,
Ms. Keke
