On Tuesday Febuary 3rd, the students went to KoOlina to visit Lanikuhonua. This is Hawaiis uniqueness lies in its native culture (Kanaka maoli), and the diverse ethnic cultures that have embraced the Hawaiian value of aloha. In Kapolei, Kanaka maoli is practiced and honored at Lanikuhonua. Lanikuhonua is the gorgeous beachfront property at Ko Olina, which the James Campbell Company dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Hawaiian culture through the Lanikuhonua Cultural Institute. For over a decade, the Institute has sponsored Hawaiian studies classes for area elementary school students. We are also starting our money unit this week! We are asking our students to bring coins to the classroom. (No more than $2.00 at a time please.) This will give the students hands on learning experience when dealing with coins. The class will be doing this until Feb. 17 th . The money will go to purchasing books and will be donated to classrooms in Kanoelani.
