COLONIZATION AS A DOUBLE TRAGEDY HUMAN AND HUMANE TO

AFRICANS?

Colonization is the period of the history of the black continent which

started from the time when European Republics and kingdoms decided to
expand their imperialism to the other parts of the world, with a little particularity
for Africa.

The Colonization of Africa can be described as the long process of conquest

starting from the end of the nineteenth century till the half twentieth Century.

During this time, What was the aim of this colonization? And what is the
degree of impact of colonizations on Africans, with regard to the human and
humanitary side of the colonization.

History recorded that Africa was the continent on which the opposition of
leadership was very important. In fact the imperialists, decided to meet on 1885
in Berlin during a conference in order to discuss the sharing of the black
continent.

After agreed that each power in presence should respect the treaty signed,
they started taking positions in their new colonies.

What shall be noticed is that during this period of colonizations we assisted

to the development of new societies based on the example of the values of the
colonizer country, the construction

of public infrastructure as railroads, roads, churches, schools, houses and

administrative buildings. But in order to achieve these works, the need of
handworkers was necessary. But instead of allowing the workers wages, they
were obliged to do the work by force, in occurence in some French colonies
where the "Travail forcé" as a derivation of slavery was established. During these
days, workers were bad treated, slapped. There was no time to rest, to time to
sleep for others.

In additions, in some colonies, was practiced the policy of "corvées", which

are works did for free by the local populations, men, women and children. All
these were done without any benefit for the autochtones, who were also obliged
to pay taxes to the colony administration. In these days, they used to work for
free, no insurances in case of diseases or work accident, all these works were
done for the sake of the colonising country.

Colonization was slicely different from slavery. It's only in the way that it
didn't used usual slaves to do the work (people who were sold to a master), but
all the others aspects were present:
- NO WAGE given to the workers
