    Reflection on mock interview

    As our second assignment for BES2500D I attended a mock interview conducted by


    Mrs. I. Egodapitiya focusing on a job advertisement I selected. The job advertisement
    was selected according to my qualifications and skills. By looking at the
    advertisement I prepared a cover letter and a resume to adhere with the job
    advertisement.
    The job advertisement I found was a management trainee position at phoenix plastic
    company. I order to get prepared for the interview I practised to answer questions
    through the STAR approach.
    On May 9th, 2015 the mock interview was arranged and I got all the required
    documents ready and I went to ACBT Kandy in order to participate in the
    interviewing process. The interview was one on one behavioural interview which was
    conducted in a separate office space with a real time corporate environment. I was the
    second person to attend the interview. Even though I practised to answer the possible
    question I was a little bit nervous.
    When I got my chance to attend the interview I walked to the room and Mrs.
    Egodapitiya greet me saying good morning and she introduce herself to me, by that
    moment I was confident. She started the interview by asking me about my skills
    communication, the ability in managing people, and the ability of working in teams.
    For these question I answered using the STAR method whereas I started explaining
    my situation, then explained my task, after that I explained the action I took and at last
    I stated results of my action. As the final question Mrs. Egodapitiya asked me my
    failures in life and how I overcame the situation. I explained my failures and the way I
    overcame those situations.
    After attending the interview our performance was evaluated by Mrs. Egodapitiya
    based on five criterias:
    1. Content and communication
    2. Preparedness
    3. Motivation for interview success

    4. Mannerisms
    5. Attire and personal
    My performance was evaluated by Mrs. Egodapitiya as I had very strong evidence in
    all five criterias but it was suggested that I have to forces more towards specific
    examples and my phase of talking to be reduced because my presentation speed is a
    bit more faster than average.
    As a result of the mock interview I have experienced a real time interview which
    thought me many things about corporate interview environment and the tricks and tips
    in effective interviews. And as a result I was able to understand my weaknesses in
    communication skills such as my speed in delivering answers. I think this will be
    helpful to me in my career to achieve great heights.
