SEMINAR TOPIC: Leadership Resources Review and Discussion PARTICIPANTs NAME: Jo Ann Baker 1. What were the significant learning points for you in this seminar? The significant learning points to this seminar included preparing and presenting a synopsis of a leadership book, listening to other LDP members present, and asking questions and providing feedback. This was a very interesting project. Each LDP participant presented an overview and key points of a leadership book they read. I chose the book Switch: How to Change Things When Change is Hard, authored by C. Health and D. Health (2010). This book described the change agents and how to promote change with a positive outlook. The authors described several scenarios promoted aligning the workforce with the assigned task. Each presentation provided different approaches with the foundation for the approaches recommended. There were similarities with many of the presentations, primarily suggesting collaborative and respect with all levels of systems. 2. In what ways is each learning point supportive of or relevant to your ideas about leadership? As a leader we must be open to new ideas, reflection of self and improvement, and work collaboratively with individuals and groups. 3. Identify a way to apply each of these learning points to your current role at the College. I would apply these learning points by utilizing the varying approaches in communication and planning with team members. The keys to successful leadership is trust, honesty, and consistency.
