Extracurricular Activities
New E.R.A.
Grades 10 - 12
Co-founder and co-leader of New E.R.A., a club aimed at promoting gender equality and
gender empowerment.
Highlights:
Debuted the documentary "Girl Rising" at a local theater and
facilitating a discussion afterwards with the assistant-director of the film; sold-out
the 500-seat theater.
Hosted first ever co-ed floor hockey tournament that raised $900
for local domestic violence shelter. Student participation exceeded expectations
with 20 teams and 200 student participating.
Created and main contributor to blog focused on women's issues.
Conducted monthly meetings to chart clubs direction and discuss
current events and issues.

Selected as Senior News Editor for the school newspaper, Trapeze.
Highlights:
Provide newspaper direction as member of three person Executive
Leadership team.
Manage news staff in generating story ideas, assigning stories and

As a member of the news staff in Grade 11, conducted interviews
and wrote stories for publication.
Sarah's Inn Leadership Development Initiative
Grades 10 - 12

Sarahs Inn is a local domestic violence shelter serving the women of west Chicago and
east Cook County. The Leadership Development Initiative is a program focusing on
training leaders by accomplishing a group project from start to finish with no adult
guidance.
Highlights:
Developed project mission statement, goal, and activity to benefit
the school community.
Put on a week long Huskie Strong week with different activities
to raise awareness about domestic violence that engaged students from different
cliques.
Tau Gamma
Grades 10 - 12
Tau Gamma is a service organization devoted to promoting awareness of community and
individual needs and to addressing these needs through service and fundraising. Tutored
at grade school homework club and volunteered at various community events.
Super Mentor and Ambassador
Grades 11 - 12
Worked as part of a team over the summer to organize the freshman orientation day.
Helped freshman and transfer students assimilate to the high school.
News Know How
Summer Program/Total Hours: 50
News Know How is a summer program sponsored by the American Library Association
and the News Literacy project to teach news literacy to high school students.
Highlights:
Tracked local, state, and federal candidates in 2012 election.
Developed key contacts with campaign managers to question the
accuracy of campaign statements and news reports.
Reported findings in final presentation.

Presented project on tooth decay at the Percy Julian Science Symposium and Illinois

2013 - 1 of 30 students chosen to represent high school at West Suburban Leadership conference
to discuss what makes a good leader and ways to make yourself a good leader.
