STEC: ASSEMBLY DRAGGING ITS FEET ON BRITTANYS LAW,

WOMEN LEFT AT RISK
Assemblyman Dan Stec (R,C,I-Queensbury) today called on Democrats in the
Assembly to follow the Senates lead and pass the Domestic Violence Protection Act, also
known as Brittanys Law. The legislation, S.513, was passed Monday in the Senate and
will help inform the public about violent felons by establishing a statewide registry of
violent offenders. Stec praised the legislation for being particularly beneficial to New
Yorks women and urged his Assembly colleagues to support the measure.
Each day that Brittanys Law remains dormant in the Assembly is another day
that New Yorks women are left at risk of being victimized, Stec said. The bill is
important because victims often do not know that their significant others or those that
they let into their lives have violent pasts or have been incarcerated for serious crimes.
Our goal in this bi-partisan effort is to inform the public of high-risk individuals to
prevent any further victimization and keep our neighborhoods and communities safe. I
am once again calling on Assembly leadership to do what is right for New Yorks women
and bring this bill to the floor for a vote.
