How Does Temperature affects Respiration ?

1. Background Information
The goldfish are small members of the carp family. Their respiration system is
different from the humans. The Goldfish needs oxygen and they obtain it from plants
and water. The Goldfish breaths underwater through the side gills in which they open to
take in water and some of the oxygen in which will let them be able to sustain under
water. The goldfish can be able to resist the water temperature because it is going to be
in a mid-water beaker. The Goldfish adapts to the temperature in the water and is able
to survive. In which it lets to a better and good environment for the goldfish. Before we
start the Goldfish Project there are going to be feed. The goldfish is going to be a
median size. And we are going to use a 74 to a 77 degrees Celsius. They mainly like
living in water that is 23.5 celsius.
2. Hypothesis
If the temperature increases, then the respiration rate of the goldfish would
decrease slowly by time.
3. Material & Procedures
Step 1 Get a beaker
Step 2 Get room temp. of water
Step 3 Get thermometer that measures the temperature in celsius
Step 4 Get a timer to see respiration rate
Step 5 Then filled the beaker with water
Step 6 Get GoldFish and put it inside the beaker that has water
Step 7 Time the goldfish inhaling for minute
Step 8 Record the data
Step 9 Get a hot plate
Step 10 Then put the beaker on the hot plate and turn it on
Step 11 Then put in the thermometer inside the beaker and wait for it until it reaches 30

Step 12 See the inhales of the goldfish during the change of temp. and record it on the
data
Step 13 Then get ready with the ice
Step 14 Remove the beaker from the hot plate
Step 15 Then wait for it to cool off
Step 16 Then add some ice until it reaches the temp. of 13.5 *C

Step 17 Record the inhaling of the goldfish in the temperature of 13.5 *C

Step 18 Then get more ice
Step 19 And slowly start to put in ice into it reaches the temp. of 10 *C
Step 20 Wait a 1 to 2 minutes
Step 21 Start recording the inhales in the 10 *C water
Step 22 Wait and then ask the teacher for assistance to remove goldfish
Step 23 Collect all the data and turn it into a line graph

Conclusion
The data showed us that the rate of respiration decreases as temperatures decrease
and vice versa. The reason why the goldfish takes less breathes in lower temperatures
is because they are ectothermic creatures. Meaning that the regulation of their body
temperature depends on external sources, such as sunlight or a heated rock surface. A
warm blooded creature would have absorbed the heat in the
