Rock Cycle
A term applied originally to rocks suitable for whetstones
and, in America, to white chert found in Arkansas. Now
applied to very tough, uniformly grained cherts composed
of microcrystalline quartz.

Rock Created
Novaculite is from sediments deposited in marine
environments where organisms such as diatoms, are
abundant in the water. When the diatoms die, their silicon
dioxide shells fall to the seafloor. In some areas these
diatom shells are the primary ingredient of the seafloor
sediments.
