Before arriving, I reviewed the members past medical history and
noted he had open heart surgery with bypass grafts not once,
but twice. He also had angioplasty with stents multiple times, in
addition to a pacemaker and automatic defibrillator and carotid
stents.
So, when I got to the house and his wife greeted me by saying he
was having chest pains, I knew this probably wasnt going to be
good. As the member joined us in the kitchen, I could see his color
was pasty. He said he had constant mid-sternal chest pain while
at rest for the past 60 minutes and that it first started becoming
noticeable yesterday.
I quickly got his vital signs and other pertinent information for
calling his primary care provider and emergency response.
In speaking with his wife in a follow-up call, she said that he was
admitted to the hospital and received a full cardiac workup which
revealed blockage of a coronary artery. She thanked me for the
visit and the follow-up call, noting that today just happened to be
her husbands birthday.
