Over the past few years, the scene along the US and Mexican

border in Arizona has been quite hectic. Not only has the border
brought a lot of commotion, but the government also has been making
quite a ruckus on what to do. According to CBS, there are over 5 million
illegal immigrants residing in the country, and legal citizens are torn on
whether or not they should be allowed to still reside there, and
whether or not they should be allowed to even cross the border.
With the passage of Arizona Senate Bill 1070 and its signing into
law, the state of Arizona began one of the toughest immigration
prevention programs in the US. This law allowed law enforcement
officers to run checks on the immigration status of individuals
whenever reasonable suspicion exists, that the person is unlawfully
in the country. This newly given right was thrown up for debate, with
many Americans standing on either side.
Recently, Arizona joined 17 other states in suing the federal
government and immigration agencies to derail President Obamas
executive action deferring deportation for up to five million people.
These states are claiming that Obamas executive action is
unconstitutional and will worsen the crisis along the border. Although
the number of immigrants caught crossing illegally into Arizona has
plummeted since their introduction of immigration laws, state
lawmakers this week extended a law enforcement surge on the border
through August.
