Ms Quinns Notes
WWI Significant points

At the start of WW1 Australians enlisted with enthusiasm

Individual battles in the war lead to establishment of 'The Australian

soldier' and sentiments of courage/bravery/resilience/

Created heroes and established patriotism and identity for the Aussie
digger

Blood was lost and in doing so created a real sense of loss for the country
and created legends (identity)

Impacts on morale: Sense of pride/hope and satisfaction when battles

were won

Significant deaths in WW1 through front line or injuries many lives were
sacrificed for the idea of freedom and independence

Impact on the workforce females were introduced into the workforce and
had to work in factories / interpreters/hospitals as a result of the men that
were leaving to go to war.

Back home a resentment for Germany built - Australian Germans were

often marginalized.

War made improvements in technology (FYI Vegemite was created as an

easy and nutritional treat! J )
