Notes on Geographical Distribution, Cultivation and Phylogeny
Cultivated as a pot herb, medicinal plant and for herbal tea in Europe, Morocco, occasionally the Antilles, Philippines
and Java; in Central Europe of declining importance. Triploid, sterile hybrid from M. spicata L. em. L. and M.
suaveolens Ehrh. Morphologically variable. Originated in the area of the parents.
Wild distribution:
Southern and western Europe; also an established garden escape in the area of cultivation.
