Coke oven effluent:

Coke oven effluent is the polluted waste water generated after washing the gases
from the coke oven used to produce coke. It contains various harmful impurities that
may lead to serious effects on environment if not treated properly. Some of the
impurities are: cyanide, phenol, ammonia, tar, mono and polycyclic nitrogen
containing compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and other toxic
compounds. Due to these types of impurities, coke oven effluent is considered as
most polluting.
