PNGE 216: Reservoir Rock and Fluid

Properties
Vapor Pressure Test

Aim of the experiment

To compare the boiling points of two different liquids in order to determine which
liquid will produce a higher volume of Vapor
Procedure
We start by placing our two liquids (toluene and ethanol absolute) in two different
containers which are connected to two large tubes for accommodating the vapor
evaporated. These containers are connected to gauges for measuring the pressure.
We place the containers in a large heating device, which has a temperature
controlling unit on the front side, and measure the pressure 6 times at 6 different
temperatures by taking the reading on the pressure gauge. The heat was
transferred to the containers by convection (through water). We were able to infer
that the liquid that had the higher pressure reading had the lower boiling point,
since it started boiling a and producing liquid at an earlier stage.
