Lesson Plan Nov 18 - 19, 2014 Fifth Grade
This is the third of several lessons about music theory basics (treble clef note
reading & note values/rhythms). Todays lesson will be a review of the music
alphabet, staff & pitch names (covered previous class). Students will apply
their knowledge of note names by playing Orff instruments to identify titles of
songs from a worksheet.
Students will participate in a class review of the music alphabet, treble clef
line and space note names, and notes below the staff. Students will be grouped
in pairs to complete Name That Tune! worksheet, writing in the name of the
notes and playing the tunes to determine the title of the songs.
Alignment to Standards
Teacher will lead students in a review of treble clef note names. What are the
names of the line notes/space notes in treble clef? What can be used to help
remember the line & space notes? Teacher will review proper
playing/treatment of Orff instruments. Students will work with a partner to fill
in the note names on the worksheet then play the songs on the sheet to
determine the title of the song (list of possible answers on the bottom of the
sheet).
The unit will include varied instructional styles, with students working
individually, small groups of mixed abilities, and participating in class
discussions. Various levels of support will be provided.
