Level of proficiency: Intermediate
Title of the lesson : Natural Disasters
Language Point: Simple Present Tense
Duration of the lesson: 40 minutes
Equipment needed: Worksheet, whiteboard and marker, pictures and computer.
Objectives:
Within 20 minutes the students will be able to recall the words related to the natural disasters
such as tornado, blizzard, tsunami, hurricane, earthquake, wildfire through contextualization.
By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to discuss about the natural disasters by
using their own words.

PRESENTATION

Pre-activity
The teacher greets the students and asks how they are, what they did yesterday. After
the students answered these questions in their own words, the teacher tells the students that
what they know about natural disasters, what they can tell him/her about natural disasters.
While the students are saying aloud their ideas the teacher writes them on the board.
(Brainstorming) Then the teacher tells them that there are some pictures related to the natural
disasters and asks them to say what they see in the pictures. The teacher writes their thoughts
on the board. After that the teacher continues with the main activity.
Main activity
The teacher and the students listen to a song. Firstly, students listen to the song to understand what it is
about. Then, they listen to fill in the blanks. Finally, they listen to check the answers.

Post activity
The teacher gives a worksheet about the natural disasters that s/he has thought.This worksheet
prepared by using hot potatoes. Then the students complete the worksheet and exchange their
worksheets with their pairs for checking the answers. (Peer-correction)
Contingency Plan
The teacher gives a worksheet which includes a matching activity. The students are supposed
to match the names of the disasters with the meanings of the disasters.
