During this part of their journey, they observed the land was largely prairie and stopped at Fort Clatstop to wait out the winter months before continuing east toward the Snake River. Today, the site of Fort Clatstop is now a reconstructed fort commemorating Lewis and Clark's winter encampment on their expedition.
