This project presents a method for sensorless speed control of an induction machine using voltage and current model based MRAS speed estimation. It introduces the components of a typical vector control system and methods for modeling them in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The project discusses developing sensorless control in next generation electrical drives for low cost and high reliability without speed sensors or mechanical components. It also presents a model of a three-phase voltage source inverter based on space vector representation.

ABSTRACT This project presents a method of determine the speed control of induction machine using currently available software to model and simulate a vector controlled system. The components of a typical vector control system are introduced and methods given for incorporating these in the MATLAB/SIMULINK Software package . Development trends in industrial drives indicate that the next generation of electrical drives will include some type of sensor less control. Controlled induction motor drives without speed sensors have the attraction of low cost and high reliability due to the absence of mechanical component and its sensor cable. In this project, voltage and current model based MRAS speed estimator is presented. The model of three phase voltage source inverter is discussed based on space vector representation.
