Development of a HTS

Squirrel Cage Induction

Motor With HTS Rotor Bars

Deep Bar and Douple Cage

Rotor
Deep

bar or
double cage
have been used
to improve
starting torque
and efficiency of
induction
motors.

Although deep bar

and double cage
are effective
measure to
increase the
starting torque but
they are not so
much as effective
to increase
efficiency at full
load operation.

HTS Rotor Bars(BSCCO-2223 )

If we replace the
convential rotor
bars made of
copper or
aluminum with HTS
tapes we can vary
the rotor resistance
to great extends.

Conclusion
HTS induction motor can provide high
starting torque and high efficiency.
The speed of the HTS motors maintained
synchronous speed up to 63% of rated load.
Starting torque of the HTS motor was more
than two times of the conventional motor.
HTS motor showed better performance than
that of the conventional induction motor
with deep bars or double cage.
