Classification of Animals According to the Food they eat
A. Science Concept/Idea:
Animals are classified according to the food they eat.
Some animals share 'the same kind of food. This can be a basis of grouping them according to
what they eat.
Many animals hunt for food. These animals eat meat only. They belong to carnivorous group.
Animals that eat plants belong to the herbivorous group.
The third group is the omnivorous group. Animals that belong to this group eat both plants
and meat.

III. Procedure:
A. Preparatory Activities:

How do birds get their food? Cows and carabaos? Insects? Tiger and lions?

c. Motivation:
Look at the pictures of animals; can you classify these animals into their proper heading?

B. Presentation:
The pupils will be grouped into 3
Group I
List all animals shown in the picture that eat plants/ grass
Group II Animals that eat meat/flesh
Group III Animals that eat both flesh and plants/grass
C. Concept Formation:
Observations and Inferences:
Look at the animals in your activity classify them according to the food they eat.

D. Generalization:
What do you call those animals that eat grass/plants?
Those that eat flesh or meat?
Those that eat both plants and flesh/meat?
E. Application
Give other examples of herbivorous, carnivorous and omnivorous animals.
IV. Evaluation:
Classify the following animals according to the food they eat.

V. Assignment:
Draw 2 examples of animals that belong to the herbivores, carnivores and omnivores group.
