Students are taken to the hall.


-once inside and seated T explains to Ss that they will be
learning the Welcome Dance of the Wiradjuri nation.

-T explains the class rules for dance practice.


-t explains that the lesson will be 20 min, and they will get
through what steps which time will allow.

DEVELOPMENT
-T explains that the Ss will be learning the dance in 3 sections,
beginning, middle and end,
-T gets Ss to form 2 straight lines, Making sure that they are

-Ss are standing in 2 straight lines

Steps for beginning:


Girls:
Standing hunched forward slightly with the
branches in right hand shaking slightly
Boys:
Standing upright with clap sticks crossed,
same spacing as the girls
After the sound of the clap sticks there is a
sharp sound from the Didgeridoo. Students
take one step on their right foot.
Girls swing their hand to their left,
Boys clap once.
Then students start to walk forward in a
large circle around the room.
Girls walk forward leading the way, starting
off on their right foot and swinging hand to
their left, then stepping on their left foot
swing hand to the right.
Boys follow the girls around the room with
the same stepping as the girls; boys clap
their hands in time with each step.
Steps for middle:
After a long deep resonating sound from the
didgeridoo, at the 1 min 42 second point of
the CD,
The Didgeridoo will make a
repeating call which is deep and short for a
count of 1 and 2 and 3 and 4.
All Ss stand up straight and continue

sure that the Ss understand the importance of reaching up
high and pulling down into their heart or centre of their chest to

with T alongside, stopping if timing is off and repeating until the
timing and steps are perfect.

Students are still in their 2 lines


during this part of the dance.

-Ss are asked to stop again.


-T demonstrates the end part of the dance, emphasizing that
the arms are straight out to their side and shaker leg is to the
beat and not too fast.
-Ss practice all three parts of the dance until it is perfected

-Students are now spread out.

Steps for end:
The beat will fasten, the students now
spread out filling up all areas of the dance
area and moving around like a bird soaring.
As they spread out the Ss should walk to
the faster beat,

Boys clap their hands and walk to the faster
beat.
They will continue to walk around spreading
out and not following one another until they
hear the long call of the singer and the
didgeridoo will make a long deep sound with
the singers call. This is when the students
should be spread out, and facing towards
the front of the performing area.
Student now perform the shaker leg
Shaker leg:
Stand upright with bum over heels and
knees bent slightly, the motion is spread
your knees wide apart and then bring back
together.
Students will continue to shaker leg until
they hear two sharp calls from the
didgeridoo.

On these two calls, Ss stomp their right foot


down on the first call and then quickly raise
their left knee and hand into the air
CLOSURE

Questions:
When do we start to walk in the dance?
When do we reach up into the air?
Why do we reach up into the air?
When do we spread out?
When do we face the front?

-at the completion of the dance, Ss are instructed to return to


the front of the stage and sit on the floor
-T congratulates the Ss on an excellent practice and
performance.
- T asks Ss questions, reminding Ss of the class rules.

-T asks students to return to the


floor in front of stage.

-T asks Ss to line up in 2 straight lines at the door, one group


of tables at a time.
-T instructs Ss to walk to the Hall.
-once at the hall T instructs Ss to sit in front of the stage on the
floor.
-T explains that the Ss will be Learning the Boomerang Dance
from the Wiradjuri nation.

-CD and CD player set on the


stage prior to students entering the
hall

-Class Rules:

DEVELOPMENT
-T waits for Ss full attention.
The dance moves are the same for both
Boys and Girls.

-T gets Ss to form two groups, boys on one side of the hall 10


Meters back from the stage and girls on the opposite side of
the hall in line with the boys.

Steps:
-Ss start clapping as with the beat of the
clap sticks when the didgeridoo begins to
play.
-when students hear a rolling of the tongue
noise, the girls stop clapping but boys
continue, when this noise is being done the
girls run forward 10 meters to the centre of
the dance area as if they are going to throw
a boomerang.

-split Ss into groups, boys and girls


-T is in between both group

-T presses play on the CD and demonstrates the dance moves


for each group.

-T gets girls to do the dance moves first.
-T does the dance with the girls.
3 mins
-T then gets the boys to do the same.
-T also does the dance moves with the boys.

-T explains on the third time all students perform the dance


together.
-T does the dance with all the Ss.

The fingers on their right hand should be


tight together and with a flat palm.
Ss do a throwing motion with their right
hand; the left hand should catch the elbow
of the right arm at the end of the throw. At
the same time stopping their right foot into
the ground.
The Ss then pivot on their left foot and turn
around anti clockwise stepping to the beat.
The right hand should move in and out
away from the face with every step.
-on the second time when the singer makes
the rolling of the tongue sound, the Ss stop
pivoting and when the didgeridoo makes a
sharp and short grunt, the Ss clap their
hands out in front of them as if they are
catching a boomerang, Ss keep their hands
together out in front of them and with every
second beat flip their hands over while
doing the shaker leg at the same time.

Shaker leg:
Stand upright with bum over heels and
knees bent slightly, the motion is spread
your knees wide apart and then bring back
together with the beat.
-On the third time when the singer makes
the rolling of the tongue sound Ss get ready
to make another single clapping motion
when the didgeridoo makes a sharp and
short grunt. When they make the clap the
Ss raise their left foot up to meet their right
knee at the same time as the clap and

-T now stands on the stage or in front of the Ss at the point to


where they run to.

-T tells Ss to get ready and then presses play on the CD.


-Ss perform the dance until the timing and dance moves are all
in time with each other and with the Music. Repeating when
necessary.

were, and do the exact same steps as the

-then on the third time the boys run back
quickly but carefully, and then both boys and
