Who is the
initiator?

What does it do?

intended to restore
functionality for
individuals with upper
extremity amputations
advanced myoelectric
systems can even
transmit sensation back
to the user

How does it
work?

it uses a technique
known as targeted
muscle
reinnervation (TMR)
the artificial arm is
linked to the area
using electrodes
the arm picks up
those movements
and adjusts itself
accordingly

DEKA is working with


prosthetists from Next Step
Orthotics and Prosthetics and
biodesigns inc. on this project
A simple prosthestic arm (an
essentially cosmetic device) can
run $3000, while a sophisticated
prosthesis can crack $50,000
a battery-powered device
The down side of this prosthetics
is that usualy you have to
change it after 3-4 years of
usage
