4-H Workshop
this Saturday

Break out the TIDE, Mom!

The smile says it all. As promised, the Milk River MotorSports annual Sand Drags
& Mud Bog provided clean fun for the entire family but there were probably a few
moms shaking their heads when it was all said and done. The well attended twoday event attracted competitors from a broad area including Canada and North
Dakota. MRMs next event is the 80s & Up Demolition Derby on Saturday, June 13th.

Valley County 4-H

Recollections of first deer

#250

Offered by: Karen Waarvik, Broker/Owner

(406) 228-2525
www.redfoxxrealestate.com

Greetings,

It wasnt that long ago, at least in geologic time, that
North American hunters had precious few deer to hunt.
In fact, one of the realities thats been lost in our recent
abundance of whitetails is that for many hunters of a
certain age, simply seeing a deer (or even a deer track)
was a cause for celebration back in the 1960s and 1970s,
and even earlier.

Youve heard these stories - or told them yourself
- of the time not so long ago that might be called BD
- Before Deer. A time before extended seasons, liberal
bag limits, and trophy hunting.
I am working on a feature for Outdoor Life that
recalls the return of deer to our landscapes, and Id like
your help remembering their first tentative arrival. Can
you email me a brief remembrance - of your own or of
someone you know well - of seeing the first deer in your
county, or your first hunt for these comeback animals,
or any other recollection that helps us recall the first
return of the American white-tailed deer.
I look at this project as a deer-centric version of
The Greatest Generation of WWII veterans. Id like to
capture these first-deer recollections before theyre lost
forever.

Thanks so much for your help. Please call or email
if you have any questions, and feel free to contribute as
long and detailed a perspective as you can, or refer me
to someone who has an especially compelling memory
of first deer.

My best,

Andrew McKean
