Before the 1960s the United States had been a very racist country. They once banned African-Americans from public schools, and facilities (restaurants, movie/ music theatres, hotels and public bathrooms.) They were even segregated on trains and buses. In 1955 Rosa Parks got arrested for sitting at the front of bus and refusing to give her seat to a white person. Then in 1960 four students sat at a lunch counter all day without being served, causing segregation at lunch counters to be illegal by 1964. In 1963 April 28th there were 250,000 supporting the Civil Rights Bill for equal access to the public. Thus being followed by the I have a dream speech from Martin Luther King Jr. So in 1964 The Civil Rights Bill was passed. 2.
