1. Explain the developments of the U.

S Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s

Before the 1960s the United States had been a very racist country. They
once banned African-Americans from public schools, and facilities (restaurants,
movie/ music theatres, hotels and public bathrooms.) They were even segregated
on trains and buses. In 1955 Rosa Parks got arrested for sitting at the front of bus
and refusing to give her seat to a white person. Then in 1960 four students sat at a
lunch counter all day without being served, causing segregation at lunch counters
to be illegal by 1964. In 1963 April 28th there were 250,000 supporting the Civil
Rights Bill for equal access to the public. Thus being followed by the I have a
dream speech from Martin Luther King Jr. So in 1964 The Civil Rights Bill was
passed.

4. Explain the steps taken by the Civil Rights Movement which led to the Civil
Rights Act of 1964
President Kennedy introduced a legislation to Congress on June 19 th
1963 that addressed all of the issues that King said in his I have a dream
speech. King was pleased with the article that was published for the bill and
1963 and all he had to say was NOW. The Bill passed the House of
Representatives in mid-February 1964. The Senate then had the bill for 75
days because of the southern senators and the others disagreeing. On July 2 nd
of 1964 Johnson signed the new Civil Rights Act of 1964 into law with King
and other Civil Rights leaders present.
The law states the there should be equal employment opportunities, no
racial and/or sexual discrimination in the workplace. There will also be
authorized federal interventions to ensure the desegregation of
schools, parks and swimming pools to be cut off.
