PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE

We use the Past Continuous Tense for


an action that was going on in the past
when something else happened.

PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE


Examples:
1. While we were cycling, it
started to rain.
2. I was writing a letter when the
lights went out.
3. Alice was reading when her
friend came.

PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE


Lets Practise:
were talking (talk)
1. The boys ____________
loudly when the teacher came in.

PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE


was clapping
2. While the audience ____________
(clap), the curtain fell.

PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE


We also use the Past Continuous Tense
for an action that was going on at a
given time or point of time in the past.

PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE


Example:
1. John was sleeping all
yesterday afternoon.
2. They were playing football the
whole yesterday morning .
