Q1. A 2m x 2m square footing located at 1m below the ground level is loaded


with an inclined load as given in the Figure below. The footing is cast in-situ and
the properties of the soil layers are also given in the Figure. The water table is
located at 0.5m below the ground surface level.

Estimate the ultimate carrying capacity of the footing using Vesics
method and hence, the factor of safety against bearing failure.
Estimate the Factor of safety against sliding of the footing.
