The BENefit for the New Britain High School Marching Band

Uniform Sponsorship

Since Ben Cheneys passing in 2012, his family has hosted a BENefit to raise funds for the Marching
Band he served so proudly while a student at New Britain High School (Class of 2008). To date, more
than $30,000 has been donated in Bens name. This years event, the 4th Annual BENefit, will be held
on September 12 at Trinity-on-Main in New Britain, and we will also be celebrating the 80th
anniversary of the founding of the Golden Hurricanes Marching Band by Frederick Doc Mirliani in
1935.
In recognition of this special year for the band, in addition to donating the proceeds from the event,
we are offering individuals, groups, and organizations the opportunity to buy a Band, Cane-ette,
Majorette, or Color Guard uniform with a donation of $500. A special label with the Donors name(s)
will be sewn inside each new uniform jacket or dress in recognition of your generosity. The current
uniform style was adopted in 1987, and worn pieces have been slowly replaced over the last 28 years.
There is a continuing and pressing need to replace uniforms, which are routinely subjected to vigorous
wear in all types of weather.
This is a wonderful opportunity for businesses, civic organizations, alumni groups, etc. to make a
meaningful contribution to our students who, year after year, represent New Britain with pride and
precision.
To sponsor a uniform, please fill out the attached form, and mail it, with a check made out to The New
Britain High School Marching Band (which is subject to the potential tax benefits of a 501(c)
organization under the blanket of the Consolidated School District of New Britain) to : Catherine
