Indirect Objects

Indirect Objects tell TO whom / what or FOR whom / what


the action ( the verb ) is done.
In English, the indirect object of a sentence may be :
--- a noun,
Ex)
She likes to write Paul notes.
--- a noun phrase,
Ex)
She likes to write her boyfriend notes.
--- a pronoun,
Ex)
She likes to write him notes.
--- a to or for phrase Ex)
She likes to write notes to Paul / her boyfriend / him.
In French, the indirect object may be either :

an IO pronoun ( for people only )


or an or pour phrase.

English uses the same pronouns for both direct objects ( DO ) and indirect objects ( IO ).
The French Direct Object and Indirect Object pronouns are the same for the 1st and
2nd person, but in the 3rd person, there are different pronouns for direct objects and
for indirect objects.
