Rice

Properties:
Rice is sweet, strength giver, bitter, has the capacity to produce, improves the voice,
developer of semen and urine, destroyer of worms, controls the formation of
excessive bile, is cool and gives nourishment to the body.

Uses:

1. Rice is a staple food in many parts of India as well as the world.

2. A "khichri" made of old rice grains and kidney beans is beneficial to person
suffering from fever or having stomach disorder.

3. Using rice in the diet with kidney beans neutralizes its power of causing the
formation of excessive wind. It becomes cool and gives complete nourishment.

4. Ashtagun Mand (Rice water having eight qualities). If equal quantities of kidney
beans and roasted rice are taken and, the 14 times quantity of water is added to it
and then asafoetida, rock salt, dry ginger, coriander, black pepper and leaves of fig
(peepal) tree is added to it (all in powdered form) and cooked on a slow flame, it
becomes very nourishing. This rice water cures fever increases blood, hunger and
strength. It also removes the weakness because of fever.
5. The rice water, which remains after the rice,if cooked and if this is taken while it
is still warm mixed with honey, cures thirst.

6. Rice water neutralizes the effort of the intoxication due to hemp (bhang)
