The IBS tool is a unique approach to drill string vibration

damping. This tool is an eccentric one piece tool that
reduces stick-slip tendencies and dampens lateral
shocks, by inducing forward synchronous whirl (FSW)
into the near the tool section of the BHA. This IBS has
proven effective in Borehole Enlargement applications
as well as in conventional BHAs.
FSW is a benign vibration mode with a frequency equal
to the drill string RPM, with virtually no reverse bending
stresses. The IBS induces parasitic torque into the
system which minimizes stick slip and torsional
vibrations. It also acts as a lateral vibration damper
when operated at calculated rotary speeds.
By producing FSW, it substantially lowers drill string
stress.

FSW allows the drill string to resist high

vibration modes, dampen random shocks and minimize

stick slip by causing a braking / damping effect during
the spin up phase of stick slip. FSW also opposes
backward whirl.
Integral Blade Stabilizer (IBS) is a one piece rotating
stabilizer which can be placed near bit or up in the drill
string. It is a one piece construction manufactured from
high strength alloy steel (non-magnet steel optimal). It
prevents differential sticking in the drill

string by

stabilizing the BHA and keeping drill collars and drill

pipes away from the borehole wall. This reduces
vibration. drill pipe whirl. and wellbore tortuosity;
furthermore, the stabilization maintains drilling trajectory
whether drilling straight, horizontal. or directional Twells.
