OU Invitational 2015:
Get into the mind of TT first year
member, Emily Free, and her first
invitational experience

Message from the President:

President Elisabeth Rosenfeld sends
her regards and welcomes in next
years President, Taylor Bowling!

STAY GOLD!
In the beginning of Spring Semester 2015, the Tempo Tantrums
implemented another new marketing strategy, a new motto:
Stay Gold.
Aimee Hughes, a second year member and TT sophomore,
developed the motto because of the underlying relevance to
TTs mission and goals. [Stay Gold] means to stay new and
passionate, Aimee states about the new motto, thats how
people usually are with things when they begin. As we go
through the school year different events start to happen to our
members outside of rehearsals such as classes, relationships,
health issues, and it can really wear you down. By reminding
ourselves to stay gold we then go into each rehearsal and
performance with as much passion for the Tempo Tantrums as
we did the first day of auditions!
To remind TT to Stay Gold, even within their most stressful
moments, the members often wore temporary gold tattoos. The
tattoos are simply a physical reminder of our new motto stay
gold, says Elisabeth Rosenfeld, President of The Tempo
Tantrums 2014-2015, staying gold does not only mean to be the
best you can be, but to hold onto each and every moment and
cherish it as you would a very precious metal. Check out the
pictures to the right of TT staying gold and check out this
YouTube video Aimee created to emphasize our anthem:

FUNDRAISING
Rebranding TT
5th,

On February
2015 the Tempo Tantrums set out to raise
funds that would go directly to Tempo Tantrums travel
expenses. Due to the leadership of Treasurer Katie McMahon,
and the 2014-2015 Fundraising Committee (Sadie Lamparyk,
Lexie Pritchard, and Ellie Bostwick) the Tempo Tantrums
raised $75.00 in just two hours of selling hot chocolate outside
of Baker University Center. The event was called Warm Up
Your Voice with TT. Other goods such as Insomnia Cookies,
and pretzels were donated to make the event a success.
Special thanks to the many other TT members who came to
support their sisters in the fundraiser, and thank you to our
donors!

#TTtakesMiami

For Spring Break 2015, the Tempo Tantrums had the amazing opportunity to travel to
Miami University in Oxford, OH for their annual Invitational. The Tempo Tantrums were
invited by OpenFifth, which is an all male a cappella group on Miamis campus. TT packed
their cars and drove the three and a half hour journey from Athens to Oxford for the fun
packed weekend. The gentleman of OpenFifth generously provided TT with room and
board for the weekend in the OpenFifth houses. The weekend was full of group bonding,
and, of course, singing! On Saturday, TT and OpenFifth sang for a special dinner at
Miamis student union, and on Sunday was the big Invitational! With a full audience and
10 groups, the day was very enjoyable. The Tempo Tantrums started off their set with
Boy by Lil Mix, which set the sexy and sassy tone for the rest of the performance. Their
second song was their favorite ballad of the semester, XO by Beyonce, and TT closed
with Bang Bang by Arianna Grande, Nikki Minaj, and Jesse J. With a standing ovation
and compliments galore, TT left Oxford feeling fulfilled and successful. The Tempo
Tantrums would like to thank the gentleman of OpenFifth for their incredible hospitality.
There is hope for future collaboration with OpenFifth , including an invitation to Athens,
Ohio for the Tempo Tantrums A Cappella Winter Classic 2014, an annual benefit concert in
which all proceeds go to local Athens charities.

Alumnae Spotlight:

Where

Ever wonder what happened to the members of the Tempo Tantrums after they
graduated? Us too! We asked some previous members what they have been up to since
leaving The Tempo Tantrums! Here is what we found out!:

Meet Colleen Finnegan : First of all,

Colleen still can't wrap her head around the
fact that she is a TT alum! She misses The
Tempo Tantrums from her time as a
member from 2012-2014, but is loving being
in Cleveland as a substitute teacher for 3
different districts around the Cleveland
area, and will get a full time job as an
English teacher in the near future!. She is
substitute teaching for all grades (K-12) so it
is definitely a different experience! She is
searching to join another singing group at
some point in the future! Colleen will
forever be grateful for the 2 years as a
member in TT, and TT is so grateful to have
had her!

Not only when we last spoke to Katie did she
get hired at Great American Insurance Group
as a Senior New Business Representative, she
got married to the love of her life on October
18th of this past year with other TT cofounder, Stephanie Dumais, as her Maid of
Honor! (Dumais was featured in the Tempo
Tantrums Alumnae Newsletter Holiday
Edition in December 2014.) Congrats Katie!

Meet Jenna Freisthler: Member of TT from 20112014, and President from 2013-2014, Jenna is
completing teaching part time as a Choir Director

SMOs Annual Invitational

My First Invi

Emily Free

When I joined the Tempo Tantrums this past year as a sophomore, I had no way of anticipating how
great an impact it would make on my life. It is truly a unique experience to sing harmony and spend
time with sixteen other women, knowing full well you are loved and accepted by every one of them.
In the same way, when veteran members of TT would speak of Invitational throughout the year, it
was difficult to grasp just how monumental of an event it was for the A Cappella community. By
looking on the bright side of things, pushing
through the nightly rehearsals, and focusing
on the power of our sisterhood, we reached
new and exciting heights as an ensemble.
What made rehearsals fun was dressing for a
different theme every night. Sleepover
Sunday, Military Monday, Dress Like your
Big/Little Tuesday, and Stay Gold
Wednesday. We also had Secret Songbirds,
and this was probably my favorite part of
invitational rehearsals.
The Saturday of Invitational crept up so fast,
and I woke up early to start getting hair and
makeup ready. Our final preparation was an all day event, during which we warmed up both our
voices and bodies, psyched out our perfectionist selves at mic check, covered our skin in gold
temporary tattoos, and lastly, we sat in a circle to take a moment of final reflection. This was the most
cherished part of pre-performance for me. We went around the circle and talked about our favorite
part of the year in TT, and during this time there was not a dry eye in the room. When it got to me, I
could barely get words out in between my sobs, and the fact that we were all so moved by each other
was proof that we are truly a sisterhood, and part of something bigger than just ourselves.
Soon, DJ Cleoh announced our group, and I stood there feeling calm, confident, and excited. We
walked on, hips swaying and heads held high. Our opening number, Salute, arranged by Katie Lasco,
set a warrior vibe. We moved on to Britneys Best, Toxic, arranged by alumni Jenna Freisthler. We
performed this one as though we all had a sexy secret, which transitioned flawlessly into our
haunting rendition of Beyonces Crazy in Love. This ballad, arranged by both Katie Lasco and Erica
Richard, was a showcase of our true talent- proving we are not just sexy and sassy, but also real
musicians. Our closer, arranged by Ellie Bostwick, was a mash-up of hits from the 2000s, since we
couldnt pick a final song, so we decided to sing all of them. This ended our set on such a high note,
and was unique because every member of TT was featured with a solo. This highlighted our
entertaining side as well as accurately expressing our sense of unity. The feeling I had at the end,
when the audience erupted in applause, was indescribable.
I am so fortunate to have joined this phenomenal group when I did. This year was so incredible for so
many reasons, and our Invitational experience was the cherry on top. During our reflection circle, it
was said that each one of us had changed anothers life. As we move forward, none of us will forget
the unbreakable bond we established this year, and as of now, the future of TT looks brighter than
gold. You can watch our full set here: https://vimeo.com/127780603

A Message from the

President
Hello! My name is Elisabeth Rosenfeld and I am a recent graduate of
Ohio University in Athens, Ohio! I just completed my 4th year in TT,
and am currently signing off, and giving a final salute to my position
as President of the Tempo Tantrums!
After such an incredible year with immense innovation, I am happy to claim I am leaving an outstanding and
professional organization. Not only does TT continuously uphold the mission of our founders, the Tempo Tantrums
has helped shape and develop a genuinely incredible group of young women personally and professionally, including
myself! This Spring Semester, TT met many of our goals, such as performing more diverse and challenging songs, and
giving new opportunities for growth to members! We continuously fundraised so that we had the opportunity to
travel to Oxford, OH for Miami of Ohios A Cappella Invitational (see pg 4). We also successfully performed a showstopping four song set at OUs Invitational 2015 with song choices and choreography that stayed true to TTs
professional brand ( see pg 8). We also had our first professional documentary experience! Thank you to Jilly Burnes
for creating our promotional video, which can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRuj4U0P37c The
Tempo Tantrums will always be the most beloved part of my Ohio University undergraduate experience. I feel so
blessed to have been able to showcase my talents and skills as a musician and leader with unconditional support from
the TT sisterhood! Thank you for an incredible and successful year everyone! Finally, I am so pleased to introduce you
to the President of the Tempo Tantrums for the 2015-2016 school year: Taylor Bowling! Taylor would like to introduce
herself, and formally address our supporters about her goals for next year!
