Objective

We were given the task of observing a specific plot of land in OHair

park and learning about the biotic and abiotic factors that affect it. During
the next several weeks, we will acquire data about our sites in order to
determine its biome type as well as to gain information about the animal life
as well as human impact in this environment.

Description
Observations: We first visited/found our sites on April 29 and began
gathering data. At 2, my site was covered 80% with shade, mostly due to the
partially fallen tree hanging over the creek. The boundaries of my site begin
on one sand bank and extend over the creek to the base of the leaning tree
on the other side. This was an oversight on my part because I cannot reach
the other side of the creek without getting wet, thus my data is somewhat
inconclusive. However, I can observe that my site is populated mostly by
varieties small leafy plants, many tangled tree roots and one leaning tree (all
of which I hope to identify at some point). There are also groups of small fish
in the creek, as well as water striders and many flying insects.
Predictions: I do not anticipate many major changes in the following weeks.
The changing amounts of sunlight will have little effect, as my site is mostly
shady. The creek appears to flow year-round, so it will provide a constant
source of water to plants and animals in the surrounding area. However, its
speed and water level may fluctuate due to the drought in this area. While it
may continue to flow, the changing water level may affect any organisms
that live in the creek.
