Hello everyone,
We are now into the second week of swimming lessons for some of the classes and, I have to say,
the improvement and development in the childrens competency has been quite phenomenal.
Well done to all those who have been going, your high level of engagement and terrific listening
skills have been the contributing factors to such a huge development in skill.
Swimming lessons are an extremely important part of the Physical Education and Health Curriculum;
all children need to learn how to swim. I would like to thank the P&C for their support by providing
$3000 generously subsidising the overall cost thus resulting in more children being able to access
these valuable lessons.
We received some wonderful feedback from the Principal of Frankland Primary School, Ms Bronwyn
Morris after a recent visit to their school by our legendary Lockyer Leapers.
Thanks for allowing the Lockyer Leapers to visit our school. Our students were very impressed and
enjoyed interacting with the skipping team. One of our Year 1s wrote about the visit and said that
she was amazed and spellbound! Ms Morris said.
Albinism: To help raise awareness of the condition Albinism we will have be having a Wear Your

Albinism is a rare genetic condition affecting about 1000 Australians (1 in 17 000). Most people with

McLean Park
have chosen to ask all to wear their sunnies to school on Wednesday, we hope you can participate.

Healthy Food and Drink Choices in School:

Further to the last newsletter regarding healthy snacks and lunches below are some healthy
breakfast choices:
Firstly it is essential that children eat breakfast every day. Missing meals, especially breakfast, can
reduce brain efficiency and concentration. If you are running short of time we have a Breakfast
Club that operates every day at school.
Before school, build a breakfast around fruit, low sugar cereals or porridge, wholegrain breads/
bagels/English muffins, smoothies, yoghurt and baked beans.
Enjoy a drink of water or milk to replenish fluids first thing in the morning.
Breakfast tip: add fruit to breakfast cereal or yoghurt to sweeten.
Breakfast tip: top toast with sliced banana.
This week the children from Room 5 Year 2 will be providing the entertainment. I will be attending a
conference in Perth this week and therefore unable to be there, however I know you will be
thoroughly entertained.
Finally , included in our newsletter today is some work produced from children in Room 15 Year 1
and the results from our School Cross Country event.

MANAGING STUDENT BEHAVIOUR

WHAT IS BULLYING?

The key to this approach is that the child is given a choice at each step to
follow directions or face increased consequences.
Students making GOOD CHOICES are acknowledged for their efforts.
For students making POOR CHOICES the following consequences
apply ~

Bullying is when a student or group

keep picking on another student. They
try to hurt them physically or
emotionally.
The
behaviour
is
deliberate and repeated.

STEP 1
Student refuses to follow directions.
Verbal warning.
STEP 2
Student still refuses to follow directionsIn-class consequence e.g. Time Out
STEP 3
Student still refuses to follow directionsOut-of-class consequence e.g. Buddy
Class.
STEP 4
Student still refuses to follow directionsRED CARD is sent to the office.
Parents will be requested to attend
school.

SUSPENSION
Students will be immediately
suspended for verbal abuse of
staff and/or violence towards
staff or students.

RE-ENTRY FOLLOWING
SUSPENSION
Students returning from
suspension must be
accompanied by an adult and
will attend the Intervention
Centre (Room 20) where an
Individual Behaviour
Management Plan will be
developed and implemented.

A fight or disagreement between

equal students is not bullying.
HOW TO STOP BULLYING

Tell an adult, it is not dobbing to

ask for help. Both victim and
those bullying will be counselled
and supported.
Do not be a by-stander; if you
witness bullying try to stop it or
report it.
IF YOU ARE BULLYING

Step 1: Warning
Step 2: In school isolation and
counselling at recess and lunch,
parents will be notified
Step 3:
For continued breaches
students will be suspended.
