Suggested Remarks I am happy to welcome the trade delegation from the Chemicals and Allied Products Export Promotion Council of India (CAPEXIL) as well as the esteemed Egyptian businessmen present this evening to participate in the Buyer-Seller Meet. The Indian delegation is visiting Egypt to explore avenues for increase in commercial exchanges between India and Egypt. The delegation represents six Indian companies in the sectors of granite and natural stones as well as non-mineral products such as auto tyres and tubes and related products including auto belts and other rubber and plastic products and material. I am happy to inform you that during the year 2008-09, India exported granite and natural stones worth over 1.4 billion USD. Exports of auto tyres and tubes from India were over 700 million USD. Other items of exports dealt with by the members of visiting delegation also attract significant interest given their price competitiveness while retaining the high quality standards. The delegation has yesterday visited Alexandria and has had a fruitful discussion with the members of Alexandria Chamber of Commerce to identify areas where they could cooperate in mutually beneficial ways. Egypt has traditionally been one of Indias most important trading partners in the African continent. During the year 2008-09 India was 12th largest source of Egyptian imports while India ranked 5th in the list of top target countries of Egyptian exports. The governments and the business communities in India and Egypt are working closely to promote the dynamism in bilateral economic relations. The visit of the CAPEXIL delegation is part of
the efforts to expand commercial and economic relations between
Egypt and India. I am sure that this visit will open up new opportunities for Egypt to source quality products at competitive prices from India for the Egyptian industries.
