Teaching Experience

Internship II

2015
Barnhill Memorial School, Saint John NB
o Grade 6 French Immersion Math
o Grade 7 French Immersion Math
During my 8-week placement at Barnhill I assumed full teaching responsibilities
within my first few days. I was ready for the challenge of teaching in my second
language and learning from my cooperating teacher. I had the opportunity to do
Guided Math with my three Grade 6 classes. Students were divided into groups of 4
and did 10-minute rotations between 6 stations in the class. Each station covered
curriculum outcomes for the particular unit we were covering (les triangles, le
primtre, laire et le volume) and one of the six stations was a mini-lesson with me.
I was able to create many formative and summative assessment tools during this
placement. I held Math Help sessions for my Grade 7 class every Thursday after
school. This proved to be very rewarding, as I was able to give an extra boost to the
students who were struggling. I also chaperoned a field trip to The Huntsman
Aquarium and school dances.

Internship I

2014
Harbour View High School, Saint John NB
o Grade 11 Chemistry (Levels 1 & 2)
o Grade 11 Biology (Levels 1 & 2)
o AP Chemistry (Grade 12)
My first 8-week placement at Harbour View allowed me to teach both Biology and
Chemistry at different levels. Working with two cooperating teachers allowed me to

see two very different teaching styles and exposed me to new ways to teaching. I
took on full teaching responsibilities within the first week of this placement. I was
able to facilitate a frog dissection lab in biology, as well as a dilution lab in
chemistry. I offered extra help sessions at lunch time for both subjects. I was able to
participate in a professional development day at HVHS and work within a Science
Professional Learning Community.
