    Our drums are made from balloons stretched over metal coils shaped into cylinders. The tighter the drum head and smaller the circle, the higher the sound produced, as a tighter drum vibrates the air inside faster due to a shorter wavelength. We built 7 drums of varying sizes that can play the notes G2 through F3. When the drum head is hit, it sends vibrations through the air in the drum to produce different noises depending on where it is hit.

    tighter,itvibratestheairwithinitfasterbecauseoftheshorterwavelengthit
    createsthusmakingahighersoundduetotherelationshipbetween
    frequencyandwavelength.Wemade7drums,includingasetofbongos
    andfiveloosedrums,allvaryingsizes.TheycanplaythenotesG2,A2,
    B2,C3,D3,E3,andF3.
    Whenyouhittheheadofthedrum,itsendsvibrationsthroughoutthe
    spaceinthedrum,thusvibratingthecolumnofairwithinthedrum.
    Dependingonwhereandhowyouhitit,thedrumscanmakedifferent
    noises.Forthemostpart,theyproduceprettyconsistentnotes.Typically
    wewillbehittingthedruminthemiddleoftheheadtomakeagood,low
    soundthatstaysconsistent.
