- Learning Objectives:
1- To know what is matter.
2-To know what are the three states of matter.
3- To know characteristics and properties of solids, liquids and gases.
4- To recognize the particles for each matter.

- Learners Outcomes:
1- Be able to compare and differentiate solids, liquids and gases.
2- Be able to recognize powders and granules are solids.

- Classroom Activities:
1- Pouring/ dripping activities to prove characteristics of liquids.
2-Ice Cube Meltdown experiment.
3- Freezer Pops.
4-Condensation and Evaporation.

- Assessments:
1- Sand, water, empty trays.
2- Straws, soap solution, yeast, balloon and plastic bottle.

- Resources:

Lesson 2: (Week 2)
- Learning Objectives:
1- To identify that powders and granules are made of little solid pieces.
2- To understand that the shape and volume of solid does not change.

- Learners Outcomes:
1- Be able to compare and differentiate solids, liquids and gases.
2- Be able to describe how liquids flow and form a level surface while as solids
maintain their shape and volume.

- Classroom Activities:
1- State of matter song.
2- Animation lesson (3 states of matter Solid, Liquid, Gases).
3- Measuring the water size in different cups.

- Assessments:
1- Science lab.

- Unit test:
Note: This part can be created by the teacher, according to the students Level

Lesson 3: (Week 3)
- Learning Objectives:
1- To understand that a solid can be changed to liquid on heating.
2- To understand that a liquid can be changed to solid on cooling.
(Reverse of heating).
3- To understand that a liquid can be changed to gas on heating.

- Learners Outcomes:
1- Be able to define melting point.
2- Be able to define freezing point.
3- Be able to define boiling point.
4- Be able to understand that solidifying (freezing) and melting (heating) are reversible changes.

- Classroom Activities:
1- (Experiment) Melting wax and melting water: children find that melting, boiling and
solidifying occur at different temperatures in different substances.
2- How was the ice- candle made? Children find out how an ice candle is made and answer
questions about it.(fact file Pg. 18 Pupils book)
3- Discuss ice-water-steam transition; (reversible reaction)
Watch video footage of an active volcano-lava flows.

- Assessments:
1- Ice cubes, wax pieces.
2- Digital thermometer.
3- Transparent heat proof container.
4- Very hot water.
5- Large plastic bowls (handle hot water with care).

- Resources:
1- Correlate boiling, melting and freezing points.

- Unit test:
Note: This part can be created by the teacher, according to the student Level.

Lesson 4: (Week)
- Learning Objectives:
1- To learn about separating mixtures.
a. To separate solids by using sieving.
b. Using magnet, separate magnetic materials from other materials.
2- To record results in a table
3- To learn that some materials change when they are mixed with water.
a. Melting and dissolving different process.
b. To define the processes in their own words.

- Learners Outcomes:
1- Be able to understand various separating methods (sieving, using magnets and
filtration).
2- Be able to plan the main steps in a scientific enquiry, predict what will happen,
choose equipment and use it correctly.
3- Be able to realize importance of teamwork and communication.

- Classroom Activities:
1- Record temperatures that water freezes at, is liquid at and its boiling temperatureuse thermometers.
2- Children sort the content of a packet of dried soup using sieves.
3- Separate paper-clips from paper using a magnet.
7- Children makes various materials with water. They consider the different types of
change (dissolving or making new materials) and whether they could get the original
materials back.
Note: Children read the statements and complete the science log.

- Assessments:
1- Kettle & Secondary sources
3- Packets of dried soup, variety of seeds, paper towels, steel paper clips, magnets,
torn pieces of paper.
4- Flour, sand, plaster of Paris, chalk powder, salt, instant coffee, marbles, water,
beakers, spoons.
Soft margarine, spoon, hot water, beaker.

- Resources:
1-Can sort various mixtures using various methods.

- Unit test:

Note: This part can be created by the teacher, according to the student Level
