ANAK- THE MOVIE

Anak is a Philippine film about a mother’s anguish and

desperation as she tries her best to salvage her shattered family after
she returns from Hongkong.
The part of the movie which I dislike most is the part when Josie
finally returns home and she was expecting a happy reunion with her
children. Unfortunately, Josie’s children were not ready to embrace her.
Carla was also reluctant to accept the mother’s sudden appearance
and love. In this part, I was very much disheartened because her
children were not happy seeing their mother. They feel like they are
abandoned.
The second part I hate most is when Carla resents her mother for
not being their for them and for not turning up for their father’s
funeral. In this case, their children must listen to their mother’s
explanation first before judging and blaming her mother for their
miserable lives.
Anyway, after Carla throws Josie’s face all her years of pent-up
anger and resentments, Josie finally faces defeat. The most nicest
thing happened is that after Carla ruined her life, still, the mother
patiently standing still and doing everything just to unite their broken
relationship with her children. Josie did everything just to give her
family a decent and comfortable life, so Filipino, so matriarchal but yet
so sad, because the basic component of the society which is family- in
the process disintegrates..
This is a drama that makes me see the reality of life. This is a
drama which encourages people to stand in one another’s shoes. It’s
moral lessons evolve the understanding of how parents try to make a
living for their children. Children must have to understand all the
parents hardships. Both have realized these shortcomings and
constant communication is a must to avoid long separation gaps.
These hardships and great sacrifices for their children must bear good
fruits rather than a withered tree.
