What is the Make-A-Wish Foundation?

Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children in the


United States who are diagnosed with life threatening
medical conditions.

What are their Goals?


The mission of Make-A-Wish is to grant the wishes of
children with life-threatening medical conditions, and
to enrich the human experience with hope, strength
and joy.
Their vision is to grant the wish of every eligible child.

Who do they Serve?


The Make-A-Wish foundation grants wishes to
children between the ages of 2 to 17, who have
life-threatening medical conditions. These children
can refer themselves, or have a parent, guardian, or
medical care provider submit an application to the
foundation.

General Statistics
Grants a wish, on average, every 38 minutes
A child is referred for a wish every 28 minutes
Granted nearly 14,000 wishes in 2012 alone.
Every wish experience is driven by the wish kids
interests, creativity and personality.
The Walt Disney Company is involved in 40 percent of
the wishes Make-A-Wish grants.

More Statistics
Nearly 75 percent of wish experiences involve travel.
Make-A-Wish has approximately 25,000 active
volunteers in the United States.
As of August 2012, the nationwide average cost of a
wish was $8,141.
The average cost of a wish for the Oregon chapter is
approximately $5,000.

Oregon Chapter Wish Goals


Make-A-Wish Oregon has a goal to grant 210 individual
Wishes this year.
So far, they have granted 120+ Wishes in the current
fiscal year (September 1st - August 31st)
Their next goal will be to grant 250 Wishes per fiscal
year.

There is currently a cap on volunteers in Portland
Volunteers are still needed in other regions (Eugene,
Salem, etc.)

Coolest Wishes
BATKID TO THE RESCUE!
Earlier this year in San Francisco, a little boys wish to
become a superhero came true. A five year old
leukemia patient named Miles Scott saved the entire
Bay Area from the Riddler as well as the Penguin!
BatKid saved a damsel in distress, a banks vault and
the San Franciscos Giants mascot. All in a days work.
He is a sunny, positive little boy and finds his
inspiration in super heroes, Make-A-Wish said miles.
When we interviewed Miles for a wish,he surprised
even his parents: he wishes to be BatKid! said the
family to ABC news.

Some Financial Data

Conclusion
Make-A Wish is a wonderful non-profit organization that
grants wishes for children with life threatening illness.
They have made millions of children smile through tough
times. Make-A-Wish provides an experience for these
children like no other.
