Unilateral proptosis is defined as a difference of more than 2mm between the eyes, while bilateral proptosis is defined as more than 21mm in Caucasians or 17mm in Asians. Proptosis is measured by comparing the distance the cornea protrudes relative to the bony orbital rim.
